Dr. Ting is a board-certified Primary Care Sports Medicine physician who specializes in the treatment of sports injuries, overuse injuries and trauma-related orthopedic injuries and conditions. Dr. Ting will customize a non-operative treatment plan for each individual to not only help to alleviate acute and chronic pain, but also aid in the return to optimal function. He is an advocate of building wellness programs geared towards injury prevention and rehabilitation. Additionally, Dr. Ting is highly experienced in ultrasound-guided procedures, as well as regenerative medicine procedures, such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections.
An Illinois native, Dr. Ting spent his formative years growing up in Southern California, where he graduated from UCLA with a degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Ting received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He subsequently returned to Southern California and completed his residency training at the UCLA-affiliated, Northridge Family Medicine Residency Program, where he was recognized as the program’s Outstanding Graduate Resident. Following residency, Dr. Ting completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Prior to joining Newport Orthopedic Institute, Dr. Ting served on the faculty staff at his former residency program, where he was the director of the Sports Medicine program and clinics, as well as being heavily involved in the education and training of medical students and resident physicians in both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine. Teaching has been an important and rewarding aspect of Dr. Ting’s clinical experience, and he was recognized by his students with the Teaching Excellence Award at his former practice. He has also held a teaching appointment as a clinical instructor with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
As Newport Orthopedic Institute’s first Primary Care Orthopedic and Sports Medicine specialist, Dr. Ting brings with him years of experience in providing care for both elite, competitive and recreational athletes of all ages.
“My goal, and what I enjoy most about being a Sports Medicine physician, is being able to help the injured athletes and patients that I treat return to their sport or activity as quickly, but as safely as possible.”
Dr. Ting has served on the medical staff for international events such as the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, as well as other events such as the Los Angeles Triathlon, the Long Beach Marathon, and several NCAA Conference Championships across multiple sports. His experience has also included event coverage for USA Boxing, USA Soccer and USA Volleyball. In addition, Dr. Ting has been a team physician for local area high schools, colleges, and universities for many years, including the NCAA Division 1 level for California State University, Northridge. Currently he serves as the team physician for Sage Hill High School in Newport Beach, CA, as well as one of the team physicians for Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA. Dr. Ting is one of the medical team physicians for the NFL Los Angeles Chargers football team.
In his spare time, Dr. Ting enjoys spending time with his wife, as well as being active playing basketball, golf, tennis & working out.
