About Matthew E. Ng, MD
Dr. Ng was drawn to medicine by a deep fascination with the complexity of the human body and a desire to care for others with compassion. He views the body as more intricate than even the most advanced technology, and studying biology allowed him to explore that wonder while serving people during vulnerable moments in their lives. An important influence in his journey was Albert Schweitzer, whose life of service and reverence for life helped shape Dr. Ng’s view of medicine as a calling grounded in humility and purpose.
Dr. Ng chose family medicine for its broad scope and its emphasis on caring for the whole person. In an era of increasing specialization, he values the ability to address both specific medical concerns and the larger context of a patient’s overall health. This comprehensive approach allows him to see both the forest and the trees, supporting care that is thoughtful, personalized, and collaborative.
Gratitude guides Dr. Ng’s approach to patient care. He values the trust patients place in him and believes in working as a team to help individuals make informed, confident health decisions. By combining compassion, evidence based medicine, and the resources available at Hoag, Dr. Ng supports patients in achieving long term health and well being.
Dr. Ng earned his medical degree from University of Virgina and completed his family medicine residency at University of California San Diego.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys staying active, reading, spending time with family and friends, serving at his church, and enjoying the outdoors and arts of Southern California.
