About Maureen C Downes, MD
A respected professional with over 30 years of experience, Dr. Downes from an early age focused on helping others. Inspired by her own family doctor, she decided to pursue a medical education, convinced that as a physician she would be able to fulfill her desire to have a beneficial impact on people’s lives. As she advanced through medical school and pediatric training, it became very clear that medicine was, indeed, Dr. Downes’ calling.
After decades of leading an independent group of pediatricians based exclusively in Irvine, Dr. Downes made the decision to join Hoag Medical Group. She made that decision because of Hoag’s strong commitment to the Irvine community and the ability to provide her patients with access to superb specialists and services available at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Over the years of being one of the best pediatricians in Irvine, she demonstrated that she truly loves and appreciates every moment with her young patients. On many occasions, she’s had the privilege of taking care of babies of her past patients, who became parents themselves. Dr. Downes says it best, “I love seeing the world through their eyes. They show you the world that you take for granted and they keep me positive.”
Dr. Downes received her medical degree from Georgetown University and pursued post-doctoral training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and University of California, Irvine. In addition, she completed a fellowship in Ambulatory and Adolescent Medicine. She has held numerous leadership roles and currently serves on the Pediatrics Advisory Committee at the Irvine Unified School District as well as the Mental Health Committee of the Orange County Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics.
A mother of three, Dr. Downes is married to a physician and in spite of a demanding work schedule, she finds time to keep up with advances in pediatric medicine, to travel and to read good books with ladies from her book club.
