Why don’t all providers have a rating?
A rating will only display if the provider has 30 or more surveys returned. This ensures that ratings are statistically significant and reliable.

At Hoag Medical Group, we’re dedicated to providing you quality, personalized health care. We are constantly striving to optimize your experience. As part of ensuring you have a positive experience with Hoag Medial Group, our online physician directory includes ratings and patient comments. The physician-patient relationship is critical for positive outcomes. For this reason, we are compelled to provide our patients and community meaningful feedback offered from prior patients to help with choosing a physician.
How are star ratings determined?
After an office visit, patients are invited to complete Hoag Medical Group’s nationally recognized Press Ganey patient satisfaction survey. Patients are asked questions related to their care and can provide open-ended feedback about their experiences. The star rating is a provider’s average score of their patients’ overall rating for the last 365 days.
How are comments displayed?
Comments come from the open-ended feedback on the survey and are displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered libel, contain private health information, or is unrelated to the provider being reviewed. A patient’s identity is not displayed to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Comments are reviewed by an objective third party to ensure they are displayed in an unbiased manner.
Is the information credible?
Yes. Patient reviews are gathered from our nationally recognized Press Ganey patient experience survey. The survey was developed in partnership with the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) and the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). We followed strict scientific principles in design and development.
Why is this important?
As a partner in your health, we believe this information will help you make informed decisions. We use feedback to continually improve the patient experience, improve the quality of care, and to recognize our caregivers who provide an exceptional experience to our patients.
